Shankara Jinalaya




Shankara Jinalaya is a Jain temple situated at Lakshmeshwar town in Shirahatti Taluk of Gadag District in Karnataka. The temple has a rare monolithic piece of Sahasra Jinabimbas and the idols of Dharnendra and Padmavathi. Several mutilated Jain idols can also be seen on the wall of a well nearby. The temple was built in the typical Chalukyan style of architecture. Later, several modifications were done during successive renovations. In front of the temple there's a Manasthamba. The outer walls of the temple depict the figures of yakshas and yakshis. One can also find intricate carvings of dancers and musicians inside temple complex. The temple is about 12 km from Gudigeri. Yalvigi Railway Station, situated about 40 km south of Hubli, on Pune-Bangalore line is the closest railway station. The nearest airport is Hubli Airport.
