Raichur

Raichur, the administrative headquarters of Raichur District, is a historic town situated on the banks of the Tungabhadra River. The land, its relics, temples and the imposing fort are noted tourist attractions.

Steeped in history, the city and the district have many pre-historic sites and neolithic artifacts, which speak volumes about the passionate tales of bygone eras. Certain episodes of the Ramayana and the Mahabharata carry references to this old city.

Places of tourist interest in the town are the Ek-Minarki Masjid built in Persian style, the Hill Fort and Jami Masjid.

Raichur lies on the main broad gauge trunk route from Chennai to Delhi via Hyderabad. It also has a good network of motorable roads. Hyderabad is the closest airport (151 km).
