Vaishnava Temple




Situated five km from Hospet, there is an ancient temple of Anantapadmanabha of Vijayanagara Period. The chief deity at Ananthasayanagudi is Anantapadmanabha sleeping on Adisesha, the divine serpent. The temple complex within a rectangular prakara or enclosure is decorated with a majestic entrance with three gateways, on the north, south and west. To the south-east of the temple complex, there is a shrine dedicated to the goddess Ammavaragudi, and a beautiful little Kalyanamantapa. The remains of the temple reflect the architectural excellence of a bygone era.
