Haveri District




Haveri District, located in southern Karnataka, has an area of 4,851 sq km. It is bounded by the districts of Dharwad, Gadag, Davangere, Bellary, Shimoga and Uttar Kannada. Haveri town is an important trading town and has a number of educational institutions. The rivers Varada, Dharma, Kumudvati, and Tungabhadra run through Haveri.

Makar Sankranti’ or Pongal is the main festival. Gangibavi village attracts a lot of devotees from most parts of northern Karnataka during Makara Sankaranti. The history of Gangibavi is related to the period of the Rashtrakutas.
