Shravanabelagola

Sravanabelagola is an important Jain pilgrimage center in Hassan District. It is around 51 km south-east of Hassan.

The world's tallest monolithic statue of Lord Gomateswara (Bahubali), a Jain Saint, is the prime attraction here. The statue is 17 m tall. Mahamastakabhisheka is an outstanding ceremony celebrated here once in every 12 years, in which the statue is smeared with milk, curds, ghee, saffron, and gold coins. The next Mahamastabhisheka is scheduled for February 2006. Bhandari Basti, Chandragupta Basti and Chandragiri Hills are the other interests around.

Bangalore International Airport is the nearest airport. Nearest railhead is Hole Narsipur Railway Station.
