Vedavati River

Vedavati River, also called Hagari River, is a major tributary of Tungabhadra River. The Veda and Avati rivers merges near Pura, a village in Koppal District of Karnataka to form the Vedavati River.

From here it continues its path through the districts of Bellary and Chitradurga and finally merges with Tungabhadra River at Mantralaya, a temple town in Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh.

There is a famous Hanuman temple on the banks at Kellodu near Hosdurga. Vanivilas Reservoir, the first reservoir of Karnataka state, was built across this river. Koodalahalli near Hiriyur is considered sacred place by the locals where Vedavathi confluences with Suvarnamukhi river.
