Muthodi Wildlife Sanctuary



Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Chikmagalur and Shimoga districts of Karnataka. The sanctuary is also known as Muthodi Wildlife Sanctuary and is home to more than 250 species of birds. Great Indian Guar, barking deer, flying fox, mongoose, elephant, babbler and barbet are some of the animals spotted at the Sanctuary. The sanctuary was declared as the 25th Project Tiger of Indian in 1998.

Kemmannagundi and Bababuden Hills are located within the sanctuary. The sanctuary is home to trees such as teak, rosewood, honne, nandi, tadasalu and a variety of medicinal plants. The 300-year-old Jagara Giant tree, with a girth of 5.5 m, is a major attraction of the sanctuary. Besides, the sanctuary home to various types of butterflies such as crimson rose, southern birdwing, tailed jay and blue pansy.

Chikmagalur town is 30 km from the sanctuary.
