Bilgi




Bilgi, a town in Uttara Kannada District, is 12 km west of Siddapur and 16 km south of Nilkund. Bilgi served as the capital of Odeyas of Bilgi and has temples of Veerupaksha, Mahadeva and Hanumanta. Built in AD 1581 by Rangapparaja and his son Ghantendra, Ratnatrya Basadi is the main attraction. This Jain shrine has idols of Neminatha, Vardhamana and Parshwanath. There is another Jain shrine, named Shantishwara Basadi, built in AD 1592. Gerusoppa, famous for its 14th century Chaturmukha Basadi, is 20 km away. Lushington Falls is a tourist spot close to Bilgi. Tyagli and Mavingundi are among the nearby towns.

Goa Airport and Hubli Airport serve the town. Honnavar Railway Station on Karwar-Bhatkal line is the nearest major railhead. Another railhead nearby is Talguppa Railway Station.
