The town is famed for the Shankaranarayana and the Markandeswhwara temples. Nearby is Chikka Tirupathi, famous for a temple dedicated to Lord Prasanna Venkateshwara. Malur is also famous as the home of Masthi Venkatesha Iyengar, the Jnanpith award recipient and poet.
