Devanahalli is located about 35 km from Bangalore. It is famous as the birth place of Tipu Sultan. There is a monument built in memory of Tipu. Main attractions are a fort, an old mosque, and a Dravidian style temple. The outside temple wall depicts scenes from the Ramayana.

In order to provide training in traditional sculpture and painting, Devanahalli has an institute called the Shilpakala Shala.
