Sonagiri

Sonagiri is a sacred place situated 3 km north-west of Datia. This is a hilly region with about 77 Jain temples, and is one of the major pilgrim centers for Jains. Since the time of Bhagwan Chandraprabhu, the 8th tirthankar, Sonagiri has been a center to attain nirvana. It is believed that a number of saints including Nang, Anang, Ashoksen and Shridatta have attained salvation at Sonagiri. All the Jain temples found here are noted for the sky-high spires. The major point of attraction is Shri Digambar Jain Siddha Kshetra. This temple houses the 11 ft high idol of Lord Chandraprabhu. Thousands of devotees attend the annual festival held from Falgun Shukla 14 to Chaitra Krishna 5. Sonagiri has accommodation facilities with standard amenities. Jhansi is 45 km from here. Sonagiri Railway Station and Gwalior Airport facilitate the tourists to this region.
