Betla National Park




Betla National Park is situated in Palamu District of Jharkhand and is on the Ranchi-Daltonganj main road. Palamu Sanctuary, famous as a tiger reserve, is a part of the park.

Dense forest, beautiful hills and valleys encircle Betla. Animals such as panther, pythons, langur, sloth bear, sambhar, antelope, nilgai and mouse-deer are the major inhabitants here. Over 970 species of plants can also be spotted.

The tours organized by forest department in jeeps provide opportunities to view wildlife in their natural habitat. Apart from private lodges and cottages, there is a rest house run by the tourism department of the government.

Though it is open throughout the year, the best season to visit is from February to March.

The park is 25 km from Daltonganj. The nearest airport is at Ranchi, 156 km away. Daltonganj Railway Station is the closest railhead.
