Paharias

Paharias are mainly seen in the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal. They are also considered as the original inhabitants of Jharkhand. In Orissa they are known as Kamars. They believe their origin to be in Rajmahal Hills in Jharkhand.

They are both shifting cultivators and gatherers. Cooked pearl millet is consumed regularly by them. They live in mud and straw houses and on mountain spurs. They also weave bamboo baskets and produce various ethnic products.
