Maithon Dam




Maithon Dam is the biggest reservoir in the Damodar Valley Corporation and is 52 km from Dhanbad. Built across the Barakar River, it has been designed with the object to control the flood.

An underground power station here is the first of its kind in South East Asia. A lake is adjoined, which is spread over an area of 65 sq km. It has facilities for boating and fishing.

Deer park, Birds garden, and Kalyaneshwari Temple are located close to the dam.

Nearest railhead is at Barakar (8 km). Regular buses services are available from Dhanbad (52 km), Barakar and Asansol.
