Shey Shrupla

Shey Shrupla is a popular festival of Shey in Jammu and Kashmir. It falls in the middle of the seventh Bodhi month, and lasts for two days. Shey Shrupla is celebrated to mark the bringing home of the harvest. The goddess of plenty is worshipped on this occasion.

A man is chosen from a particular Shey family and, he is possessed by the goddess for few hours on both days of this festival. This chosen man is given training for his exalted role about 15 days in advance.

A special dance, depicting tigers and horses, is played by a group of performers. People, in large number, flock to Shey during the festival.
