Karzok

Karzok, situated at an altitude of 5,000 m above the sea level, is the main human settlement in Rupshu, the highest part of the Chanthang Plateau. It comes under the restricted areas of Ladakh region in Jammu and Kashmir. Karzok lies on the trade route from Lahaul to western Tibet.

This place is considered as the highest inhabited and cultivated place in the world. Due to the extreme harsh conditions, the cultivation in this place is very low.

Tso Morari Lake, situated nearby, makes the place more enchanting to the eyes. A trip to Tankse Village, Chang La and Chendey and Trakthok monasteries will be an interesting excursion.
