Lotus

National Flower of India



Lotus is an aquatic plant, which belongs to the family Nymphaeaceae. The flower, called flower of purity, is considered hallowed by the Hindus and the Buddhists.

Lotus comes in pink and white colors. The plant has a large number of petals and large circular thick leaves. Lotus can also be cultivated in tanks around three feet deep. Multiplication is usually by tubers or bulbs, and seeds can also be used to make new seedlings.

Common names are Chinese Arrowroot, Lotus Bean, and Sacred Lotus.
