Harmukh is a mountain in the Himalayan ranges
, situated towards the north-east of Srinagar city, towering over a height of 5145 m above the sea level. It came to be called as 'Harmukh' as the mountain looks similar from all sides. According to a popular belief, this mountain situated between the Jhelum and Kishan Ganga valley, is the abode of Lord Shiva
. The sacred Gangabal Lake is situated at its foot hills. In the month of September, Kashmiri pundits gather here for performing Shraddha for their dead relatives.
