Chhari Mubarak

Chhari Mubarak is the symbolic mace of Lord Shiva. This holy mace is believed to possess the powers of the lord and represents him in his absence. A Chhari Mubarak made from silver is carried during the holy Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage.

This tradition of carrying the mace has a legend behind it. According to an ancient text called Bringesha Samhita, a highly revered sage named Bringesha directed his disciples to visit the Amarnath cave and worship the ice Shivling housed inside it. These disciples however were harassed by demons during the pilgrimage. The sage worshipped Lord Shiva and sought his help. Hearing the pleas, the lord gifted the sage with the holy mace as a symbol of protection. Since then it has been a tradition of carrying the Chhari Mubarak during the pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave.
