Christ Church




Christ Church, the second oldest church in northern India, is situated in Shimla District, Himachal Pradesh.

Consecrated in 1857, this imposing structure with a clock cum bell tower and several stained glass windows is a best example for the neo-gothic style. With its tall spire, it dominates the ridge in Shimla.

The church still preserves copies of the Holy Bible, which dates back to British times. One in Urdu - titled Kitab-e-Muqaddas published in 1804 and a hymnbook, which dates back to 1906. It also has several memorial tablets in brass on the walls.

The church can be even seen from the Tara Devi Temple, 8 km away.

The church can be reached by bus from the Shimla Bus Station.
