Shashur Monastery

Shashur Monastery is an ancient monastery, situated just 2 km from Keylong, in Lahaul and Spiti District, Himachal Pradesh.

It is renowned for its ritual-plays, which are enacted by the lamas while donning masks and exotic costumes. This three-storey structure was founded by Lama Dewa Gyasatshe of Ladakh in the 17th century. Since standing in a narrow site, the complex has been conceived vertically, yet conforming to the traditional mandala concept.

The Chham Dance, held in the month of June/July, is a major draw.
