Mcleodganj




Located in Dharamsala of Himachal Pradesh, Mcleodganj is the seat of the Tibetan Government in exile and the residence of their spiritual head, the Dalai Lama.

Perched at a height of 1700 m, Mcleodganj is an important learning center for Tibetan Buddhism. The whole area displays Tibetan culture and crafts at its finest. This has earned it fame as the Little Lhasa.

Tsuglag Khang situated here is known to the local Indians as the main temple. It houses the images of Sakyamuni Buddha, Padmasambhava and Avalokitesvara.

Just one km from Mcleodganj is the Tibetan Institute of performing Arts (TIPA), which preserves a number of musical, dance and theatrical tradition of Tibet. The institute also organizes a ten day festival from the second Saturday of April.

Namgyalma Stupa, Bhagsunath Temple, Kunal Pathri Temple and Kotwali Bazaar are nearby interesting places.

The nearest airport is Gaggal Airport, about 13 km from Dharamsala. Pathankot Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
