Sandhya Devi Temple

Sandhya Devi Temple is an 8th century shrine located at Jagatsukh, in the Kullu District of Himachal Pradesh. It is situated about 14 km from Naggar and is just 6 km south of Manali. The presiding deity here is Sandhya Devi (goddess of the evening). This large chalet roofed temple with a stone base and wooden verandah is one of the main temples of Naggar.

The significance of this ancient shrine is that it was erected on the structure of an old temple. The stone carvings in the lower part, which differ from the upper woodcarvings, done in primitive style, stands as a testimony to this fact. Evidences from the inscriptions reveal that the original structure including the wooden part was done in the year 1428. The present structure contains Mughal pillars and woodcarvings which could be the later additions. The temple was later renovated in the 19th century.

Sandhya Devi Temple can be reached from the Manali Bus Station. Kullu Manali Airport is about 50 km from Manali.
