Kumkum

Kumkum is a vermilion powder of bright red color. In India, it is the usual practice of the Hindus to apply kumkum on the forehead. Kumkum is put on the forehead by women, indicating their marital status. Usually, kumkum is offered to a married woman whenever she visits another person’s home and on special circumstances such as Sankranti and Navratri, with prayers for the long life of her husband. The kumkum is also marked on the edges of a marriage invitation card. Now, Kumkum is available in different colors.
