Kanwar Sanctuary




Kanwar Sanctuary is located at Parvati Valley in Kullu District of Himachal Pradesh. This sanctuary is home to Himalayan thar, the big goat found in mountain cliffs.

This oak, deodar and mixed coniferous forest is also home to a variety of fauna including musk deer, barking deer, brown bear, snow leopard, black bear, civet cat, porcupine, blue sheep and flying squirrel. More than 80 bird species have also been recorded here.

Visitors can enjoy uphill walking from Garahan Nala to Kasol through dense majestic deodar and fir forests.

The best time to visit the Sanctuary is April-May and August-October. The nearest village, Manikaran, is 2 km away. Access is via Kullu to Kasol, and onward by foot.

Kullu Manali Airport, Kullu Bus Station and Joginder Nagar Railway Station are the nearest major access points.
