Jhamakada Dance

Jhamakada, also called Nanoo Vinayaka or Navami Ka Swang, is a group dance native to the Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh. It is performed exclusively by the women folk during a wedding or a sacred thread ceremony.

The Women dress as men and enact many incidents of life. The performance, which includes songs, takes place during the whole night. Men are not permitted to watch it. In case they are found peeping into the show, they have to face punishments, which are of humorous nature, reflecting the true spirit of the occasion.
