Jakhu Temple

Jakhu Temple, at Shimla, is an old temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman. It is located at an altitude of 2,438 m on Jakhoo Hill, the highest peak in Shimla. The temple is east of town center and offers a fine view over Shimla and the surrounding valleys.

The temple was built in 1837 and modified later in 1920. According to legend, Lord Hanuman stopped here while he was in search for the sanjivini, the herb required to cure Lakshman who was wounded in the epic battle of Ramayana. Jakhu Temple is home to a large number of monkeys. It can be reached either by hiring a pony or taxi.
