Nadaun

Nadaun is a pretty town situated on the Shimla-Dharamsala road on the banks of the Beas. Nadaun was the favourite residence of Raja Sansar Chand, who built himself a palace at Amtar on the river bank, 2 km from the town. This historic town was once the capital of the Kotch rulers, and derives its name from the demon Nandan. Nadaun assumed importance when the Kangra rulers shifted their capital to this town after the loss of Kangra Fort to the army of Jahangir. The town fell into insignificance when Raja Sansar Chand recaptured the Kangra fort and established himself as the ruler of Kangra valley once again.

Jawalajee temple is located nearby. Excellent facilities are there for Mahaseer fishing at the confluence of the Kunah and Beas Rivers, at Upper Nadaun. Another attraction is the river rafting from this place to Dehra and further. There are beautiful camping sites for anglers.

Nadaun is 20 km from Hamirpur town and 43 km from Kangra. Nadaun houses a popular Sikh shrine Gurdwara Nadaun. There is a rest house, an old palace and a Shiva temple in this peaceful town.
