Radhasthami is a festival celebrated on the Shukla Paksha Ashtami in the Tamil month of Aavani or the eighth day of the bright half of the North Indian Hindu calendar
(August-September). This festival is the observance of the birth of Shri Radha who is closely associated with the divine mystery of Krishna
. On this day the deities of Radha and Krishna are worshipped and special offerings and pujas
are made for the deities. In this festival, thousands of devotees gather at Barsana
, 30 km from Mathura
and offer their prayers.
