Sirmaur District




Sirmaur District, situated in the south-eastern corner of Himachal Pradesh, has three important tourist places namely Nahan, Renuka Lake and Paonta Sahib. The land is famous for legends and the places of pilgrimages. The altitude varies from 900 to 4000 m above sea level. The headquarters is at Nahan. Nahan, a historic town pleasantly located on a ridge of the Shivalik Hills, has beautiful green forests and valleys in Choordhar peak. It is a little town with a salubrious climate and has gardens, temples and three popular walking circuits. Paonta Sahib, a sacred city to the memory of Guru Gobind Singh, is one of the important places for the Sikhs. Renuka, the sacred and picturesque lake, is one of the most beautiful lakes in the shape of a sleeping woman.

Major religions in the district are Hindu and Muslim. People speak Hindi and Punjabi. Shivalik Fossil Park Saketi develops life size fiberglass models of pre-historic animals. Other tourist destinations are Trilokpur Temple, Giri Nagar, Kafota, Gayatri Temple and Renuka Sanctuary.
