Kurukshetra lies on the National Highway 1 and is 160 km north of New Delhi. It is the headquarters of Kurukshetra District and the two main streets of the city are the Pipli Road and Station Road. Kurukshetra has a booming agro-economy.

Kurukshetra is believed to be the venue of the great battle mentioned in the Mahabharata. Kurukshetra, the land where the Vedic civilization was born, lies between the holy rivers Saraswati and Dhrihaswadi. The place is dotted with temples and tanks and is held sacred by both Hindus and Sikhs.

Sannihit Sarovar, Brahma Sarovar, Ban Ganga and a 5000-year-old Banyan Tree are the major attractions in the town. A solar eclipse fair is organised here and during this time people come from all over the world to have a holy dip in the Brahma Sarovar.

The nearest airport is at Chandigarh, 116 km away. Kurukshetra Junction Railway Station is on the main Delhi- Ambala rail route. Kurukshetra Bus Station is at Pipli.
