Pinjore is a place of historical and religious importance. It is located 22 km from Chandigarh
and 14 km from Panchkula
. It is believed that Pandavas
, on their way to the Himalayas
, had stayed here for some time. Hence, the place got the name Panchpura - literally meaning 'the city of five'. In due course the name changed to Pinjore. Paleolithic period tools - fabricated on quartzite - have been found from this place. Archeologists have also found several sculptures belonging to 9th-12th century.
