Jind, the seat of administration of Jind District
, is a historic town situated 123 km north-west of Delhi
. It is a prominent grain market in the district.
Legends say that the town developed around the Jainti Devi temple built by the Pandavas, and hence was named Jaintapuri. Jind is the corruption of Jaintapuri.
