Karnal



Karnal is an important city, which lies along the west bank of the Yamuna River, in Haryana. It is believed that the name, Karnal, was derived from the name Karna, a warrior in the ancient Indian epic, Mahabharata. District headquarters of Karnal District, Karnal is 135 km north of New Delhi.

National Dairy Research Institute, Wheat Research Directorate, National Bureau of Animal Genetics Research and Sugarcane Breeding Institute are located at Karnal. Some of the attractions include the Cantonment Church Tower, Karna Tal, Miran Sahib's Tomb and Kalander Shah's Tomb.

Nearest airport is at Delhi. Karnal Railway Station is on the New Delhi- Ambala line. National Highway 1 passes through Karnal. Karnal Bus Station operates services within state and outside.
