Kaithal

Kaithal Town, situated in the north central Haryana, is the administrative headquarters of the Kaithal district. It is a thriving agricultural center in the state, known for its cotton and rice plantations.

Legend has it that the city was founded by the Pandava king, Yudhishthira. References to this town have been found in the chapters of Mahabharata. Later it came under the Mughal rule and was a prominent cultural center at that time. During Akbar’s reign, this town was given a facelift and a fort was constructed there. After the battle of Panipet, the city came under the administration of Bhai Desu Singh. The palace of Singh, which stands overlooking the Bidkiar Lake, is now a police station. Kaithal is also associated with Razia Sultana, the first woman ruler of India.

Places of tourist interest in and around the city include the tomb of Razia Sultana, Phelgu tank, Dargah of Baba Shah Kamal Kadri, the 108 Shiva temples and the 7th century brick temples built by king Shalivahana.

Kaithal is well connected by road and rail with all major city centers in North India.
