Gray Partridge

Gray Partridge (Perdix perdix) is a medium sized plump game bird generally found on arable farmland and grassland. It has a distinctive orange face and throat with a gray breast and rusty red tail. The upperparts are gray-brown with chestnut streaks. There is a dark brown horseshoe mark on its belly.

Sexes are similar; but the markings less distinct. Juveniles lack the orange throat and dark belly patch.

It feeds mainly on grass leaves and seeds like clover, cereal and grain.

Gray Partridge can be seen in the Surinsar Mansar Wildlife Sanctuary, Jammu and Kashmir.
