Wild Ass Sanctuary

Spread over an area of 5,000 sq km, Wild Ass Sanctuary, also known as the Little Rann of Kutch Wildlife Sanctuary, is noted for its large wild ass herds. Anjal Wild Ass Sanctuary is also within the Little Rann of Kutch region. Located in Kutch District, it was established for the protection of more than 2,100 wild asses inhabiting this area. It is the largest wildlife sanctuary in India.

The sanctuary is a large area of flat land spotted with islands known as "Baits" which form the core for the flora and fauna. The wild ass herds are attracted by these flat grass covered expanses or islands where coarse grass springs up during monsoon. Other wildlife includes blue bulls, blackbucks, Chinkara, wolves and jackals. It is a habitat for various birds and reptiles too.

The best season to visit is October – June. For convenience, watch towers, a tourist complex and other tourist related facilities are provided.

It can be reached via Dasada village, 93 km from Ahmedabad. The nearest airport is at Bhuj (150 km). New Bhuj Railway Station is only 1 km north of Bhuj.
