Girnar Hill

Girnar, a scenic mountain range which rises to 3660 ft above the sea level, is the highest peak in Gujarat. Situated on the outskirts of Junagadh, it is also one of the most sacred pilgrimage centers for the Jain community in the state. Girnar Hill is also home to the lions in India and is 5 km east of Junagadh.

Girnar is dotted with numerous beautifully carved ancient Jain temples. There is a rock at the foot of the hill, bearing an inscription of Ashoka (2nd century BC). It also sports two other inscriptions, which date back to 150 and 455 AD. Girnar is also famous for the Kathiawadi culture.
