Rajkot District




Rajkot District is located in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat. It enjoys an important position in the political and cultural history of India. Mahatma Gandhi started his famous Rajkot satyagraha from the Rashtriya Shala in Rajkot. Dhoraji, Gondal, Morbi, Wankaner, and Upleta are the important places. The district headquarters is Rajkot.

Groundnut, cotton and sugarcane are the chief crops. Rajkot is one of the two major groundnut oil-manufacturing centers. Popular products include glassware, tiles and wall-clocks of Morbi. Jetpur is known for its textile dyeing.

The ancestral home of Gandhiji at Rajkot hosts a permanent Gandhi exhibition. The museum is a treasure house of Saurashtra's cultural heritage. Swami Narayan temple in Gondal, and the Jalaram temple in Virpur are the pilgrim centers. Watson Museum and Library, Kaba Gandhi No Delo, Jagat Mandir, and Lal Pan Lake and Randerda picnic spot are other attractions.
