Gandhinagar District

Commercial and Cultural Heart of Gujarat



Situated on the western banks of the Sabarmati River, Gandhinagar District covers an area of 649 sq km. It was named in memory of Gandhiji (Father of the Nation). The city Gandhinagar is considered as the second planned city in India, and is the capital of Gujarat. Its architectural style is highly influenced by the work of Le Corbusier (French architect), who designed Chandigarh. Laid out in 30 sectors, each sector has its own shopping and community center, primary school, and health center.

The important places to visit are Adalaj, Randheja, and Dabhoda. The festival 'Palli', celebrated in Roopal village is of prime tourist attraction. Vasaniya Mahadev at Vasan village is an interesting tourist spot. Capital Complex, Children's Park, Sarita Udyan, Craftsmen's Village, and Akshardham are the other attractions. Nearest airport is at Ahmedabad, 32 km from the district headquarters.
