Gujarati Cuisine

Gujarati Cuisine is exceptional in many ways from other culinary traditions of India. The rich vegetarian tradition of Gujarati Cuisine may have originated from the religious ideologies and beliefs of the region. It is blend of exquisite flavors and textures. The varied cuisine is largely influenced by the terrain and lifestyles of its people. It changes strongly in character as one moves from the coastal regions to the drier, semi-arid areas to the north or the west. A typical thali of Gujarat offers endless variety of savory vegetables, lentils, fried snacks, and sweet meat, accompanied with butter milk, yogurts and nuts. The main dish, Khichdi is eaten with kadhi and finely chopped vegetables as garnishing, onions and pickle. In contrast to the pure vegetarian traditions, the Muslim community here are famous for their non-vegetarian dishes.
