Bhuj, the ancient walled city, is a major town and headquarters of Kutch District, in the north-west of Gujarat. Formerly the capital of the native state of Kutch, the city was under the rule of Jadeja Rajputs until independence. The town was ravaged by a massive earthquake in 1819.

There are several ancient alleys, old palaces, and museums in Bhuj. The town-wall, 35 ft high and 4 ft thick, with towers at irregular intervals was formerly armed with fifty one guns. The chief tourist spots are the museum of Gujarat, Prag Mahal, Aina Mahal, Sarad Bagh palace, Kutch museum.
