Watson Museum and Library




An excellent showcase of Saurashtra's cultural heritage, Watson Museum and Library is situated in the Jubiliee Garden, Rajkot. The museum and library is a memorial dedicated to Colonel James Watson, who was a political agent of Saurashtra from 1886-89.

Artifacts from Mohenjodaro, 13th century carvings, silverware, natural history exhibits and textiles are the pride of the museum. A huge 19th century marble statue of Queen Victoria seated on a throne, portraits and photographs of royal princes of Saurashtra and European dignitaries, handicrafts, pottery and princely relics are the other major displays. Other exhibits are impressive collections of statues, silverware, textiles, ancient coins and rare books. Two attractive imperial lions, which flank the doorway of the museum is noteworthy.

The museum has library facilities, guide service and film shows.

Timings are from 10:00 hrs to 14:00 hrs and from 14:30 hrs to 18:00 hrs. Closed on Sundays and public gazetted holidays.
