Jamnagar, dubbed as the ‘Jewel of Kathiawad’, is a coastal town situated 92 km north-west of Rajkot, in Gujarat. The town, dotted with beautiful ancient monuments and broad streets, imposing facades and squares, is one of the most beautiful settlements in the Saurashtra peninsula. Jamnagar is 308 km west of Ahmedabad.

Jamnagar is a prominent air and naval base owing to its location – close to the neighbouring country of Pakistan. It was one of the most important princely states of Nawanagar. Founded in 1540 by Jam Rawal, a Jadeja Rajput leader, the town was given the hereditary title - Jamnagar or the city of Jams. Jamnagar is now a major center for brass industry in the district. It is also famous for Bandhini fabrics.

Jamnagar has an assortment of ancient temples in and around the town and is also known as Chothi Kashi. Major tourist attractions include the Willingdon Crescent, Lakhota Fort and Kotha Bastion, Marine National Park, Bala Hanuman Temple and Jain temples. The town is also renowned for its exquisite handicraft items including silk and gold embroidery, silver ware and bandhani (tie-and-dye fabrics).

Jamnagar Airport, known as the Jamnagar Govardhanp Airport, is just 10 km away. Jamnagar Railway Station is a major railhead of Gujarat. By road, Jamnagar is linked with Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Bhavnagar, Rajkot and Surat.
