Dada Hari Wav Step Well

Dada Hari Wav Step Well is an ancient step well located just 200 m south of Mata Bhavani's Well in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. This well was built by one of the women of Sultan Begara’s harem in AD 1501. The main purpose of building this well was to provide drinking water to travelers and pilgrims. This well is a long and narrow Baori, a distinctive architectural feature of the Gjarat region.

The significance of Hari Wav well is a series of steps that leads down to lower platforms and terminates in a small octagonal well. This curious well is cooler as one goes deeper into the well through the steps. The water level changes depending on seasons. The galleries above the well and a small portico at ground level make Dada Hari Wav an eerie place. This beautiful well is now in a dilapidated stage due to age and neglect.

The best time to photograph the well is between 10:00 to 11:00 hrs as the sun’s rays will not be penetrating to the various levels. There’s no entry or camera fee. Behind the well, there is a mosque and rauza (tomb) of Dada Hari.
