Agama

The Sanskrit word 'agama' means acquisition of knowledge. The Agamas are Hindu tantric writings of medieval India, dealing with such topics as the codes of temple building, sculpting idols, and the modes of worship. The three chief sects of Hinduism, namely Vaishnavism, Saivism and Saktism have their own respective Agamas.
