Ribandar

Ribandar is a town in North Goa District of Goa. Goltim is 7 km east and Pomburpa is 6 km north. Ambarim, Betim and Naroa are other nearby places.

The name of the place originates from Rayachem Bandar, which literally means the Port of Rayas. This is the place where the historic battles between Vijayanagar kings and Bahmani sultans took place.

Goa Institute of Management is the major landmark in this area. Church of Ribander, built in 1565, in a peculiar architectural style is the main attraction of the place. Old Goa-Panjim Causeway (built in 1633 by Portuguese Viceroy) is worth a visit.

Pilerne Lake, Our Lady of Socorro Church, Corjuem Fort and Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary are in the neighborhood. Nachinola is another neaby destination for birding enthusiasts. Ferry services connect Ribandar with Chorao Isaland.

Goa Airport and Karmali Railway Station are the main access points.
