Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary

Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary, the second largest sanctuary in Goa, is situated at Cotigao and is 12 km from Palolem beach. In 1969, it was established with the aim to guard the wildlife near the Goa and Karnataka border. With an area of 80 sq km, it is covered with dense forest, and various animals, birds and reptiles are spotted here. Talpona river, which runs through the sanctuary, makes it a perfect spot for nature lovers. An ancient Vedic study center, Jeevottam Partagal Math, is located nearby.

Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary is home to gaur, sambar, leopards, spotted deer, monkeys, and many birds like white-eyed eagle, rufous woodpecker and the Malabar crested eagle. There is a treetop watchtower (25m high) for visitors to have a look around the place. Free guidance and tent facilities are provided. In case of an overnight trip, accommodation is also available. The best time to visit this sanctuary is from October to March.

Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary is 10 km southeast of Chaudi.
