Ovi Songs




Ovi Songs are mainly sung by Hindus in Goa at the time of wedding ceremonies. It is sung by women at the time of applying coconut-pulp milk to the skin of the bride and groom while preparing condiments for dinners. Christian missionaries used Ovi as a medium to spread Christianity in Goa.

Dantear Ovio is a popular Ovi song sung during the occasion of grinding wheat and rice for various food preparations at the time of wedding. It is commonly sung by the villagers in Savoi-Verem, Boma and Zambaulin.
