Shri Damodar Temple




Located at Zambaulim, about 22 km from Margao, Shri Damodar temple is on the banks of the Kushawati River. Near the temple, the river is regarded as holy and believed to have medicinal properties. Many devotees take a bath to cure themselves of bodily ills.

The temple is dedicated to Lord Damodar, an incarnation of Lord shiva. The affiliate deities are Ramnath, Chamundeshwari, Mahakali and Mahesha. Both Hindus and Christians worship here. Kaunsha, Bharadwaj, Kashyapa, and Vatsa gotras are the mahajans of the temple.

Shigmo, a week long Goan Hindu festival of color is celebrated in the temple. The festival features a colorful fair, exchange of gulal, collective meals and presentation of shows on popular legends, and folk culture. Annual Jatra is held from Ashwin Poornima to Vadya Chaturthi.
